How about workers’ comp?

Via ESPN, former players seeking workers’ comp are forcing teams to foot massive insurance bills and defend mounting lawsuits. A growing class of former players claims anything from career-ending hits to cumulative brain trauma entitles them to workers’ comp benefits, often including lifetime medical care and payments. The claims could cost teams millions of dollars each year as they see more and more former players seeking money for their past injuries.

Some have even cited the growing liability as a catalyst for change in the game’s play.
